Get Certified
CCHIT offers two distinct EHR certification programs: an ONC-authorized (ONC-ACB) certification program available for both commercial and provider customized products to qualify providers for federal incentive payments; and an independent CCHIT Certified® program to provide providers with more buying assurance.
ONC HIT Certification - 2011 and 2014 Edtions
For developers of commercial products:
The ONC HIT Certification Program supporting Meaningful Use measures was developed in response to the requirements of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). The ONC 2011 and 2014 Editions of this program are fully available now. This federal certification program is limited to assessing compliance with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) developed criteria and standards, using HHS approved testing procedures and tools. The program certifies complete or modular EHR technologies used in either the "Eligible Provider" or "Hospital" settings. Learn more at The Source™, an online certification management service only available to EHR developers at CCHIT. Prepare for the ONC 2014 Edition with our new ONC Criteria Browser.
For healthcare organizations:
EHR Alternative Certification for Healthcare Providers (EACH) is a CCHIT-developed, ONC HIT certification program for providers who are not able to meet the EHR certification requirement through use of technology purchased from vendors. To qualify for incentive payments, you may need to achieve certification on your own if you built your IT capacity over time with multiple commercial products, internal development or a mix of both. This program is designed to evaluate how your technology measures up to requirements developed by the government to support meaningful use and to pursue certification of your existing EHR technology not already covered by a vendor certification. Learn more at The Source™, an online preparation and certification management service only available to providers at CCHIT.
CCHIT Certified® 2011
The CCHIT Certified® certification programs include a rigorous inspection of integrated EHR functionality, interoperability, and security according to criteria and test methods independently developed by CCHIT's multi-stakeholder, expert work groups. They require validation of use at provider sites and, for ambulatory EHRs, basic usability testing. The programs are designed to offer providers more assurance in purchasing. Learn more.
Case Study
"I explored several certifiers, and I decided on CCHIT because I felt the testing preparation process would be more thorough", said Peter Cleary of Stratus EMR. Stratus EMR offers a comprehensive EHR and PMS to outpatient addiction treatment clinics. Stratus EMR v1.0 is ONC 2011 Edition certified as a complete EHR. "I realized the added value of The Source™ and the other preparation material when I did my research," said Peter. " The support material prior to the testing and the pre-validation were both helpful as a I prepared for the certification. Based on everything offered on The Source and the useful feedback during the pre-validation, I think I made the right choice. Also, everyone I dealt with at CCHIT was really nice and helpful."
