Health IT companies wishing to certify an Ambulatory EHR in our CCHIT Certified 2011 certification program should review the materials and follow the certification steps outlined below. Optional add-on certification is available for Behavioral Health, Cardiovascular Medicine, Child Health, Dermatology, Clinical Research, Oncology and Women’s Health (obstetrics).
NOTE: Behavioral Health is available as both an add-on to this Ambulatory EHR certification as well as a standalone certification for EHRs used in other outpatient care settings.

Health IT companies wishing to certify an Inpatient EHR in our CCHIT Certified 2011 certification program should review the materials and follow the certification steps outlined below. Companies certifying an EHR in this program as well as the Ambulatory EHR and Emergency Department EHR programs may choose the optional add-on Enterprise EHR certification.

Health IT companies wishing to certify a Long Term and Post Acute Care (LTPAC) EHR in our CCHIT Certified 2011 certification program should review the materials and follow the certification steps outlined below. Companies certifying EHRs in this "core" program may also choose the optional add-on Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and Home Health EHR certification programs.

The 2009 Health Information Exchange (HIE) certification program was launched in October 1, 2008, closing in September 2009. This initial HIE certification program focused on operational HIEs. The criteria for certification testing covered security and interoperability. To achieve certification an HIE was required to meet all security requirements and demonstrate the ability to receive and send at least one of the following transactions. An HIE could choose to be certified in more than one transaction.
- HL7 Lab 2.5.1, Lab Result Transaction Testing (HITSP C36 and C35)
- HL7 CDAr2, Lab Report Document Transaction Testing (HITSP C37 and C35)
- CCD, Patient Summary Document Transaction Testing (HITSP C32)

Ambulatory 2008 EHR certification became available in July 2008 and the program closed on June 30, 2009. Certified products were required to meet 100% of the criteria below. The certification term was 2 years.
