The Certification Commission is beginning development of Comprehensive EHR certification programs in Oncology and Women’s Health (Obstetrics and Gynecology). These programs represent the next step in the Commission’s expansion roadmap to address the needs of professional specialties, care settings, and patient populations.
Applications for volunteers to these two new work groups will be accepted through this Web site from March 16 through close of business 5:00 PM Central time on April 16, 2010. Those interested in applying should complete the application; no other form of application will be accepted. Work Group Member Qualifications and Commitment
The Certification Commission selects work group participants based on their knowledge, experience, and abilities. While specific domain knowledge is valued, a commitment to working constructively with others to achieve CCHIT’s mission is extremely important. Previous experience working on cross-stakeholder committees, task forces, and other volunteer initiatives should be described. To ensure broad involvement and consensus, the Commission also puts a high priority on maintaining a balance of stakeholders in each group which includes physicians and providers, consumer organization representatives, health IT vendors, and healthcare payers/purchasers, as well as representatives from government, standards development, and public health. Each work group has approximately 8 - 18 members including two co-chairs.
The Commission’s success is the result of the dedication and contributions of these volunteers. The level of effort required may vary among different work groups, and at different times during the development cycle. Alternate or substitute attendees are not permitted. Meetings are typically held by teleconference, sometimes with Web-assisted sharing of visual information as well. Some groups have found it appropriate to meet weekly, while others have met every 2 weeks. Work group members are also asked to join face-to-face meetings, at their own expense, one to two times during the development year – one in early July for orientation and kickoff, and, as needed, midway through the development cycle for cross-group coordination and harmonization. Meetings are held in Chicago, IL.
